I've recently made the move from fcp7 to fcpx and i'm having a real hard time! There are several things i can't figure out how to do, and this is just one of them:
Cutting solo audio tracks with the blade tool (or another way, if there is). I can trim the audio clips from one side, but how do I cut a chunk out of the middle of the clip?

the blade only cuts video. it won't cut sound racks.
If the sound track is attached to a video track, it cuts both (even if i want to cut only the sound). however, if the sound track is not related to a video track, i don't know how to cut it.
Thanks! I just restarted fcp and now it works! i didn't even have to reset the preferences... i guess it was a bug. since i'm new to fcpx i thought that was how it was supposed to work...

YYou can't cut it with the blade tool? Or select it and press Cmd-B to kind at skimmer/playhead
IT wasnt clear that the audio was part of a video file. You can't cut just the audio. You select a section and silence it.
You should be able to Blade after the audio is detached from the video, select the clip, Control-Shift-S, then cut it up.
If the audio is a seperate clip, hold the B key and slice away.

The sound is detached from the video, but the blade doesn't work on the sound track. It only responds to video tracks. Don't know what I'm doing wrong.
Maybe the Preferences need a reset, hold Option-Command as you start FCP X.
BTW: What version is your FCP X?

Post a screenshot of what you're seeing. Is this audio detached as seen in David's message or is it only expanded?
